Great poster, Lovina! Regarding averaging the sensory data due to similarities – is this true for all outcomes? One might expect a difference in “cool/cooling” between smooth menthol and tobacco, but perhaps the menthol doesn’t produce a strong sensation.
Hi Nick! Thanks for the question. Surprisingly the similarities were seen for pretty much all outcomes when averaging the participants’ responses for each sensory question. However, the standard deviation was high when analyzing menthol or tobacco flavors separately so looking forward this data will likely be analyzed in another way to really see the differences between flavors.
Wonderful work !
Excellent, well done.
Interesting study. Nicely presented.
Fantastic presentation, Lovina! I’m curious, did you collect data on your sample’s current or prior experience with e-cigarettes? I wonder whether that might relate to interest in/perceptions of IQOS…
Hi Karin thank you for your question! We do ask about current e-cigarette use (n=7) and do ask some questions during the qualitative interview comparing IQOS to e-cigarettes so I will have to look at the impact of their experiences on the perceptions of IQOS. For some of our cigarette only users the novelty aspect of IQOS was mentioned and influenced their interest in IQOS.
Thank you for your reply, Lovina!
Love to see our lab’s work presented in such a clear and concise way!
